Khorin al-Ghrant is a 31 year old Iraqi woman who grew up in Baghdad and recently settled in Brooklyn. (She moved to Jakarta in 1991, and then to Los Angeles in 1994 -- luckily, her father was an engineer). Before she left Iraq, her poetry was published quite frequently in her school journal. Unfortunately she was born deaf -- which informs many her poems.
Her poems are about her personal experiences as an Iraqi woman in America. Although they are anti-war, they don't blame the US for what they have done to her country. She hates the war, but understands that it is not Americans, but their government that driving the imperial ambitions of the United States.
